According to O’odham oral history, the labyrinth design depicts experiences and choices individuals make in the journey through life. In the middle of the “maze” a person finds their dreams and goals. An individual has a final opportunity when they reach the center, a last turn in the grand design, to look back upon their choices made and paths taken. Hopefully they have lived in harmony with nature and their fellow people. Finding balance, wisdom, and home along their journey of life with its twists and turns, joys and sorrows, choices and consequences. After this reflection the Sun God greets us, blesses us and passes us into the next world.

The Enneagram symbol is a nine-pointed diagram that represents nine personality types and how they relate to each other. The word Enneagram comes from the Greek words for nine (ennea) and something written or drawn (gramma). The symbol consists of three parts: a circle, a triangle, and an irregular hexagon. Combined they represent interconnectedness, unity, movement, potential for growth and transformation, and the triadic nature of reality.

The triple goddess symbol is a triunity representation of the three aspects celebrating the feminine cycle of life and divine feminine energy: the maiden, the mother, and the crone. The moon in three harmonic phases: waxing, full, and waning. The waxing moon symbolizes the maiden, who is young, innocent, and adventurous. The full moon symbolizes the mother, who is nurturing, creative, and compassionate. The waning moon symbolizes the crone, who is wise, experienced, and powerful.

The SATOR square, sometimes called the Templar Magic Square, contains an acrostic five-word Latin palindrome. It is thought to be a word puzzle of Roman origin (in ROTAS form) adopted by the early Christians, though some believe it has Jewish origins. Believed by some to hold mystical powers, it remains one of the worlds oldest unsolved puzzles, as scholars are yet to form a consensus on its true meaning.

“Mono no aware” is a Japanese idiom from the Heian period. It is an awareness of the impermanence of things, a reality of all things in this world. My inspiration for this work is from a story I read about the Samurai Minamoto Yoshitsune. The Koi in this design were from a long stalled work in progress, so now the impermanence of one design is born into another.

Unicorns transcend boundaries and cultures from around the world. They represent a wide range of ideas, even sometimes having deadly power in mythology. Purity, power, masculinity, femininity, freedom, positivity, hope, and healing seem to be the strongest associations. If there can be one all encompassing mantra, it has to be “Believe in Yourself!” Believe in your mystical uniqueness!

Éirinn go Brách translates to "Ireland to the End of Time" or "Ireland Forever." The term has been endeared by Irish Volunteers in military service and to show pride in Irish heritage by Irish and their immigrants abroad. The Celtic Harp requires great skill and long hours of practice to play, which afforded it the association with the Gaelic ruling class. The Celtic hound motif is believed to signify loyalty, love, health and good luck.

This ancient symbolic representation of Three Hares possibly came from East Asia via the Silk Road, and has been adopted by many cultures. It's an auspicious symbol, often thought to represent peace and tranquility. Another theory is it represents the process of continuously moving forward to reach a state of enlightenment. Like the Triskelion and Triquetra it is associated with the Trinity when adopted in Christian use.

Bats often get a bad rap in Western cultures, probably due to their nocturnal nature. Despite this, many cultures don't share the negative feelings towards Bats. To them, Bats symbolize rebirth and death (but not in a negative way). They are Guardians of the night. This symbolic bat is inspired by architecture I visited in Hue, Vietnam. In Hue the influence appears to be from China, where Bats represent good fortune or good luck.

The Medicine Wheel, also known as a Sacred Hoop, has been used by generations of Native American tribes to symbolize dimensions of health and the cycles of life. Different tribes interpret the Medicine Wheel in their own ways. Each of the Four Directions (East, South, West, and North) are typically represented by distinctive colors (such as black, red, yellow, and white). The colors have many meanings, some believe it stands for the skin tones of the different human races. The circular shape can represent the continuous pattern of life and death, or the path of the sun and moon. The segments can represent the stages of life (birth, youth, adult & elder, death), or the Seasons of the year (spring, summer, winter, fall).

The Ouroboros is often interpreted as a symbol for the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth. A World serpent representing the changing of the seasons. In this color representation of our skins, as brothers, intertwining in our infinite lives for eternity. Locked not in struggle, but in unity, a life stronger together in a sacred knot.

The Mrenh Gongveal are the Elves of the Khmer. The Cambodians embrace them as the Guardian Spirits of their homes. Now you can wear your Mrenh Gongveal house wherever you go. Maybe carry a piece or two of candy with you in the case one elves wants to have a chat with you.

Shamrock, a three-leaved sprig, is derived from the Irish Seamróg and has been used as a symbol of Ireland since the 18th century. The shamrock as a symbol is also tied to Saint Patrick, Ireland's patron saint. It is said he used it as a metaphor for the Christian Holy Trinity, though the Celts had their own trinity Goddess before Christianity. The three Morrígna are Badb, Macha, and Nemain (sometimes Anand). The three Morrígna are also associated with the three land goddesses Ériu, Banba and Fódla.

Gothic inspired Claddagh. The Claddagh is a traditional European Ring with a symbolic design which represents Love (Heart), Loyalty (Crown), and Friendship (Hands). The skeletal hands lend a non-traditional twist and I’d like to think represent “Friendship for Eternity.” The Claddagh has become an iconic symbol of Irish identity. With a Horror twist.

For Throwback Thursday (or Flashback Friday) I thought I'd share a design I did for Democrats Abroad Cambodia. The designs promoted the organization and events centered around getting Expats (Democrats and Republicans) registered to vote. Not to mention some great events for Debate Watches and Election Day Watches (Celebrations).

The figurative form of the Lotus represents many ideas in Asian cultures, beauty, elegance, perfection, purity, and grace to name a few. The unfolding petals hint at the expansion of the human soul. In songs and poetry it is sometimes used as an allegory for feminine attributes. It also suggest that a human from murky begins, can lift themselves up to the light to strive for beauty and perfection.
