The New York Apples were a charter franchise of World Team Tennis (WTT). The team was originally known as the New York Sets to match the names of other successful New York sports teams including the New York Mets, the New York Jets, and the New York Nets. They won the 1976 WTT championship under that name led by Billie Jean King. Prior to the 1977 season, the defending champion Sets held a contest to choose a new name for the team, and Apples was selected. With their new name, the Apples produced the same results winning their second consecutive WTT title in 1977. On October 27, 1978, the Apples folded after their fifth season. WTT suspended operations of the league shortly thereafter.

The San Diego Friars were an expansion franchise of World Team Tennis (WTT) founded in 1975. The Friars qualified for the WTT playoffs twice in their four seasons and won the 1978 Western Division Championship. The team folded following the 1978 season.

The Pittsburgh Triangles were a founding member of World Team Tennis, a professional tennis league. The team began play in 1973, and the Triangles played until 1976.

The Chicago Aces were a charter franchise of World Team Tennis (WTT). The Aces played only one season before being contracted by WTT on February 1, 1975. The Aces played their home matches in at the Lakeshore Racquet Club in Chicago. The Aces had 15 wins and 29 losses and finished in last place in the Gulf Plains Section.

The Minnesota Buckskins were a charter franchise of World Team Tennis (WTT). The Buckskins played only one season before folding after the 1974 season. The Buckskins had 27 wins and 17 losses and were the Gulf Plains Section Champions. They lost to the Denver Racquets in the Western Division Championship Series ending their season.

The Baltimore Banners were a charter franchise of World Team Tennis (WTT) founded in 1974. The Banners had 16 wins and 28 losses, and finished in third place in the Atlantic Section missing the playoffs. After the team owners failed to post the required $500,000 letter of credit, the team's contract was terminated and the players were distributed among the other teams in the league.

The New York Sportimes were a professional tennis team competing in World TeamTennis (WTT). The team was originally based in eastern Long Island from 2000 to 2002, before moving to Westchester County, New York in 2003, and then to New York City in 2009. The team was founded as the New York Hamptons in 2000, before changing its name to the New York Sportimes in 2003. In 2005, the team made its first playoff appearance and went on to defeat the Newport Beach Breakers in the WTT Final to win its first King Trophy.

The Phoenix Racquets were an original franchise in the World Team Tennis League in 1973. But before the Racquets play a match, the team was sold and moved to Baltimore, Maryland and renamed the Banners.
