Rydell High School Class of 1959 from Grease

Vince Lombardi High School keeps losing principals to nervous breakdowns because of the rowdy students' love of rock 'n' roll and their disregard of education. A new principal, the rock-music-hating Miss Togar, is brought in with promises to put an end to the music craze, but when Miss Togar and a group of parents attempt to burn a pile of rock records, the students fight back and take over the school. When the police are called and demand that the students evacuate the building, they do so, which leads to an explosive finale. For better or for worse, this is the synopsis of the 1979 musical comedy, Rock 'n' Roll High School.

School of Rock - Alternative Movie Poster

Rydell High School is the primary setting of the 1978 film Grease and its 1982 sequel Grease 2. The location for Rydell in Grease was filmed at Venice High School, and the location in Grease 2 was filmed at Excelsior High School. However, unlike the filming locations for Grease, all shots of Rydell in Grease 2 were filmed on-site at Excelsior.

Rydell High School

The High School of Performing Arts, usually referred to as the School of Performing Arts and informally known as "PA" was a public alternative high school established in 1947 by educator and creative thinker Franklin J. Keller, as a part of Metropolitan Vocational High School, using his staff and administrators on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Under Keller's stewardship, it offered music and theater arts programs in addition to the traditional "trade" skills. In 1948, the school occupied a disused 1894 public school building on West 46th Street in the Times Square area. The new school offered programs in music, dance, drama, and, for a time, photography.
