John's already a bit of a metal director, but here's our metal take on one of the masters of cinema!! John Waters (American, born April 22, 1946) is a filmmaker, visual artist, and writer. Born in Baltimore, MD, Waters began the rise to prominence and gained a cult following in the 1970s, with his audacious, so-called “trash films.” His 1972 film, Pink Flamingos, is notorious for its reliance on shock value and repulsive imagery.

Do you think anything else under heaven really matters?” – James Baldwin In his iconic novel Giovanni’s Room, gay author James Baldwin makes a powerful statement about love. He proclaims that sex and gender don’t matter; all that matters is that two people love each other. Nothing should stand in their way if they have love in their hearts. These words resonated with millions of people who felt like their emotions were invalid because of the gender of the object of their love. With this quote, Baldwin assured them that it didn’t matter because love is love.

Inspired by a famous protest sign that appeared at numerous LGBTQ+ liberation events in San Francisco. "Thank God I'm Gay" is a piece of queer history: It was printed in big block letters and often held next to religious protestors at Pride, at rallies for nondiscrimination bills, and at the front door of City Hall. Wording has been updated to be inclusive of more genders and orientations, but the spirit is the same: It's a blessing.
