Lyme Regis T-Shirts

For this painting I've chosen a rather unusual view of Lyme Regis. Most people would stand at one of the levels here and photograph towards the shore, but here I've stood with my back to the sea, looking over the tops of parked cars to view the jumble of walls and buildings at the focal point of this Dorset seaside town. Its the point where the two roads in meet at the shore, and where you can catch the bus home again. Its a view with lots of details to keep you looking! I've painted this in oil on a 12x12 inch board.

The second of my Lyme Regis paintings comes from a view I had sitting on a bench eating an ice cream. I had wanted to sit on one of the chairs, but they were all taken by people gazing out across the beach. Painted in oil on a 12x16 inch board

Lyme Regis on the Dorset coast is renowned for being part of the Jurassic Coast world heritage site - a place where fossils abound. Such is its fame that even the street light incorporate and ammonite design - making them tricky to paint. There are a lot of good views to paint of this town, but I've chosen this along the promenade to paint as I think it best represents the town and its seaside / holiday / relaxed vibe. I've painted this in oils on a 12 x 12 inch board. For those wanting to find the fossils, the best spot is the grey mud cliffs in the background (nearer Charmouth)

Lyme Regis is a coastal town in West Dorset, England, situated 25 miles west of Dorchester and 25 miles east of Exeter. The town lies in Lyme Bay, on the English Channel coast at the Dorset–Devon border. It is nicknamed "The Pearl of Dorset." The town is noted for the fossils found in the cliffs and beaches, which are part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

*Monmouth Street, Lyme Regis, April 2021* Monmouth Street (Lyme Regis, Dorset, England) connects Coombe Street with Church Street in the Old Town district. It is believed that the Duke of Monmouth stayed here in 1685, and the street was subsequently named after him. At the end of Monmouth Street (though technically in Church Street) is the Norman Church of St Michael the Archangel. The current place of worship dates from around 1120 AD, but there is some evidence that an earlier Saxon church occupied the same site. Date: 25th April 2021.

The building began life as two cottages, which was converted into one house, and named Library Cottage because it was here that the town's Marine Circulating Library was established in 1839.
