The Calgary Broncos were an original World Hockey Association franchise founded November 1, 1971. In the first WHA draft, the Broncos chose Barry Gibbs, Jim Harrison, Dale Hoganson and Jack Norris. The team relocated prior to the start of the first WHA season when team owner Bob Brownridge died. They moved to Ohio, becoming the Cleveland Crusaders.

The Washington Senators baseball team was one of the American League's eight charter franchises. The club was founded in Washington, D.C. in 1901 as the Washington Senators. In 1905, the team changed its official name to the Washington Nationals. The name "Nationals" appeared on the uniforms for only two seasons, and was then replaced with the "W" logo for the next 52 years. However, the names "Senators", "Nationals" and shorter "Nats" were used interchangeably by fans and media for the next 60 years.
The Charleston Charlies were a Triple-A minor league baseball team located in Charleston, West Virginia. The Charlies played in the International League from 1971 to 1983. The team was the relocated Columbus Jets. In 1977 the franchise was returned to Columbus and Charlies owner Robert Lavine purchased the Memphis Blues, moving the team to Charleston, assuming the Charlies name. The Charlies were affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1971–76), Houston Astros (1977–79), Texas Rangers (1980), and Cleveland Indians (1981–83).
The Minnesota Twins arrived in 1963 and set up a new affiliate called the Orlando Twins. The franchise joined the Southern League in 1973. The Twins played at Tinker Field in downtown Orlando, near the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium. In 1990, the team was renamed the Orlando Sun Rays. In 1993, the Chicago Cubs became the team's new major-league affiliate, and the team was renamed the Orlando Cubs. While still a Chicago Cubs affiliate, the team renamed itself once again in 1997 and became the Orlando Rays. The following year, for one season only, the Seattle Mariners were the Rays' major-league affiliate. The Tampa Bay Rays (then the Devil Rays), an American League expansion team in 1998, assumed the Orlando Rays' major-league affiliation.

The league was made up of teams imported from foreign leagues. The San Francisco club was actually the ADO Den Haag from The Hague in the Netherlands, coached by Ernst Happel. The Quad City Thunder were a Continental Basketball Association franchise that was based in the Quad Cities of Illinois and Iowa. They played in the CBA from the 1987–88 season until the CBA folded in 2001. The Thunder won the CBA championships in the 1993–94 and 1997–98 seasons, and runner-up in the 1990–91 season. The Thunder played in Moline, Illinois, first at Wharton Field House before moving to the new MARK of the Quad Cities in 1993.
The Oakland Buccaneers was an American soccer club based in Oakland, California that was a member of the American Soccer League for one season. The Buccaneers changed their name midway through the 1976 season to the Golden Bay Buccaneers as they played most of their home games in Berkeley.

The Virginia Squires was a basketball team based in Norfolk, Virginia, and playing in several other Virginia cities. They were members of the American Basketball Association from 1970 to 1976.
The team originated in 1967 as the Oakland Oaks, an ABA charter franchise based in Oakland, California. They moved to Washington, D.C. as the Washington Caps in 1969 but moved to Norfolk the following year, becoming the Squires. The Houston club was actually Bangu Atlético Clube from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They played their home matches at the Astrodome, making them the first ever soccer team to play its matches indoors.
The Baltimore Blades were founded in 1944 by the Jacobs brothers, who owned a military uniform supply company. The Blades replaced the void in the EAHL when the United States Coast Guard Cutters hockey team disbanded. Baltimore was affiliated with the Buffalo Bisons in the American Hockey League.

The Fort Wayne Fury was a professional basketball team in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) from 1991 through the cessation of the CBA on February 8, 2001. The team played at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Fury finished as the league's runner-up in the 1996 season. Former members of the team include former Indiana University standouts Damon Bailey and Greg Graham, NBA guard/forward Stephen Jackson, former multiple-time World Heavyweight Championship (professional wrestling) wrestler Kevin Nash, and Percy Miller, better known as the rapper, "Master P".
The Detroit Driver was a a member of the Arena Football League (AFL) from 1988 to 1993. The club then moved to Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1994 and played in that city at the Massachusetts Marauders through the end of the 1994 season.

The West Palm Beach Tropics were one of the eight original franchises that began play in the Senior Professional Baseball Association in 1989. The West Palm Beach Tropics returned for a second season, as a traveling team known as the Florida Tropics, however the team ceased operation when the league folded in December 1990.
The Winter Haven Super Sox were one of the eight original franchises that began play in the Senior Professional Baseball Association in 1989. After their first season, the Winter Haven Super Sox ceased operations.

The CLEVELAND NETS was organized in 1974 as a tennis franchise in the World Team Tennis League. The league, founded by tennis star Billie Jean King, fielded 16 teams to play a schedule of 44 contests each. After 4 years the Nets moved to New Orleans in Feb. 1978. The league folded that year.
