This little dumbo octopus (Grimpoteuthis) is hanging out in the warm waters of the deep water hydrothermal vents. There are vent crabs (Bythograea thermydron) and giant tube worms (Riftia pachyptila) are there too. Hot steam and minerals are spewing out of the vents and so much life is thriving there, even in the pitch dark, because of chemosynthesis.

Quincey was often bullied as a child for his glasses and rather large head. Though he didn't grow out of either one, he did realize most bullies had much harder lives than he did—his parents had always been home to help him with his homework, and to look under the coral for monsters before bed. A lot of times the fish and other animals who bullied him didn't have such loving families! It wasn't fair, so Quincey decided he would try to help them—he was good at math and at science, so he started a club at school for after-school tutoring. And maybe he couldn't bring himself to look under the coral for monsters alone, but he could help his friends look. And get lots of waterproof flashlights.
