A crow sitting on the statue of a swimmer. This sculpture is suspended on a plinth some 30 feet in the air. It is on a new development by an old harbour near Portishead. I liked the way the bird was looking down at the sculpture as though passing an opinion. Nikon D60 with Sigma 70-300 Zoom. 100 views on 27/12/09

Harry Clarke (17 March 1889 – 6 January 1931) was an Irish stained-glass artist and book illustrator. Born in Dublin, he was a leading figure in the Irish Arts and Crafts Movement. One of a few cottages found in Hatfield Forest. Hatfield Forest has all the elements of a medieval forest still intact: deer, cattle, coppice woods, pollards, scrub, timber trees, grassland and fen. There is a seventeenth century lodge and rabbit warren. It is unique in England and possibly the world. Declared a forest in the 12th Century, when fallow deer were introduced and it was part of the Great Forest of Essex, supplying deer for the King's table and local nobility. It was also used as a royal hunting ground. In December 1999, near Christmas, a Korean Air cargo plane crashed shortly after take off from Stansted Airport. Killing all the crew, it spread debris all over the forest and made a huge crater. The airport remains ...

I was amazed by this pattern, caused by a persistent wind separating the lighter sand from the heavier sand, sculpting waves. I used a longer focal length to compress the scene into an illusion of liquid waves under the sky. It even looks like the wind is whipping the tops off the waves, as it does on the sea.
