Space Smith and his girlfriend/co-pilot, Dianna (later spelled "Diana"), explored and patrolled the universe keeping it safe for travel and trade. They battled space pirates and aliens.

As Sky Wolf, Larry Wolfe wore a white wolf pelt into battle and headed a three-man flier team. Members of the team include Cocky Roche, who was a cockney, and the Judge, an old Englishman turned down by the R.A.F. because of his age. The last member was "The Turtle," A Polish mute whose tongue was cut out by Germans and who communicated by tapping on his own head in Morse Code. The group flew special planes that split in half to become separate vehicles. In fact, Sky Wolf and his team were such an effective group of Nazi fighters that Adolf Hitler himself was desperate to get rid of them to the point of actually participating in a plan to capture them.

Ventrilo was both a professional ventriloquist and an amateur detective. He fought crime by throwing his voice. His assistants included his sister, Vera, and his chemist older brother, Dr. Fate. He dealt with enemies such as the Snake Cult and giant bats.

Tugboat Tessie is the owner and captain of the tugboat Harbor Lady, based out of a major shipping port. She is an older woman, having a grown daughter that serves as her first mate on the tug, but still well into her prime and quite strong and physically imposing. Tessie often finds herself having to deal with lots of unsavory characters along the waterfront. Criminals and con men litter the area like floatsom on the tide. Thankfully Tessie's strength, her mean right hook, and her skill as a tugboat captain serve her pretty well to help keep the harbor safe.

Raised in a small kingdom in a remote part of Samarkand, the girl known as the Princess of the Moon was taught that she came from a long line of women who had been unbeatable in battle. Taking her family heirloom, a moonstone said to make the wearer invincible, she left her home and traveled to America in search of Prince Mengu, a suitor she had liked but easily defeated. Finding him working as a teacher under an assumed name, she created her own false identity, Clare Lane, and found work at the same school. She then convinced Prince Mengu to join her in fighting crime.

Fantomah, the "Mystery Woman of the Jungle," is a mysterious goddess-like being who protects the jungles of Africa. She has vast magical power, to the point of being practically omnipotent, and can transform herself into a frightening blue phantom/skeleton creature as well as a floating skull with blonde hair. Fantomah often used her vast magical powers to sentence her enemies to bizarre and brutal punishments. For instance, in Jungle Comics #7 she transforms a band of greedy diamond miners who oppressed the natives into one man, then sends that man to an "unfound world" to be enslaved by hideous green fanged monsters, then sent into a pit of cobras, and then absorbed into a wall by a giant hand.

Ray Cardell was looking through his telescope one evening when he was suddenly struck by an unknown beam of energy. After being exposed to this mysterious energy, Ray gains X-ray vision and the ability to paralyze/burn people with eye beams. He believed his new powers will "strike terror into the hearts of the most hardened criminals". So, He becomes the crime fighter Master Key.

The Flying Dutchman was an aviator from the Netherlands whose family was killed. He takes revenge for his family by killing the murderers and then flying as an air mercenary for the Allies. His identity is never revealed but his first name is hinted as being Jan. The Flying Dutchman battled such enemies as the Deathless Brain. In addition to being an ace fighter pilot, the Flying Dutchman was also a good fist fighter, and usually carried a pair of handguns on his hips.

Pyroman is the secret identity of research student Dick Martin. Due to his work with high voltage electricity, his body developed the ability to store current. He discovered this ability after he was wrongly charged. Sentenced to die in the electric chair, he instead found himself possessed with electricity-based powers. After clearing his name, he decided to use his powers to fight crime.

Joe Blair was a private detective. When a defense manufacturer hired him to investigate the inexplicable defections of his workers, he decided to use it as an opportunity to test his new invention and become a crime-fighter known as Zippo. Zippo was a moderately skilled detective. He has low-level super-speed thanks to his costume's wheeled feet. The wheels were powered by compressed air and controlled using his belt. With the wheels, Zippo could travel up to 65 mph.

The Green Mask was a super-powered entity that would sometimes possess others in order to temporarily fight crime. The Green Mask had the powers of super-strength, flight, and limited invulnerability.

After Richard Stanton's daughter was kidnapped, the shock gave his wife a heart attack and he quit the theater to find her. Disguising himself as a "harmless old woman," he later came to be known as "Madam Fatal." He was assisted by his parrot, Hamlet, who would recite Shakespeare. Madam Fatal had no powers but, wielded a cane as a weapon and was a skilled actor and master of disguise.

The Bird Man, winged hunter of the plains and descendant of an ancient Native American god, was gifted with the ability to fly and the keenness of a bird of prey. His wings were said to be as durable as steel. He carried with him a hunting knife and a bow and quiver.

The Merrywether family was traveling through the jungles of Burma when bandits killed the mother, father, and sister. Young David was the only survivor. He was found and raised by a Tigress and gradually gained all the powers of the cat family. When he became an adult, he decided to return to the United States. Upon arriving there, he was appalled to discover that the city was full of crime and evil he found. He decided to fight it, both as a private eye in his civilian identity and as the costumed Cat-Man.

Before he died, Stan Carter's scientist father injected Stan and his brother, Dicky, with an experimental "Power Elixir" that he invented. It left both the Carter boys with a W-shaped scar on each of their chests and powers such as superhuman strength and speed. Using these abilities as well as their multi-terrain vehicle, the Wonder Ship, Stan went on to fight crime as the Lone Warrior with his younger brother Dicky as his sidekick. By day, Stan Carter was an Army enlistee.

Rod Hathway was a wealthy aristocrat and philanthropist living in the city of Great New York around the year 2255. As a hobby, he began solving crimes on Earth, Mars and Venus and soon became one of the most feared crime fighters on all three planets. He took the name "Avenger" to protect his identity. He was assisted by his friend, Dot Kenny, who took the name Teena. His enemies included Set Maag and the Gargoyle, among others. As the Avenger, Rod wore an armored space suit, that allowed him to survive in space. He also carried a ray gun and a variety of high tech gadgets such as an x-ray vision gun. He was a good fighter and an excellent detective.

Fred Parrish, a star football player at Harvard, is practicing in a remote mountainous area with two friends when a storm develops.The three run to escape the storm but are struck by lightning with only Parrish surviving. He manages to get to his small private plane to fly for help, but crashes in a very deep valley when his plane is struck by lightning also. He is rescued from his crash and brought into a subterranean lab by mysterious figures. In the lab Dr. Bertoff heals him with scientific expertise and his radium deposits. Dr Bertoff gives him new powers harnessing the lightning that was still active in his body and informs him that he needs to use them to stop the invasion of the forces of the Green Sorceress.

The Spirit chronicles the adventures of a masked vigilante who fights crime with the blessing of the city's police commissioner Dolan, an old friend. Despite the Spirit's origin as detective Denny Colt, his real identity was virtually unmentioned again, and for all intents and purposes he was simply "The Spirit".

Tom Wood was a factory worker and a failed inventor. Years ago, he invented a "Micro-Mask" - a full-face mask that contained a built-in microphone (which allowed him to amplify and throw his voice), a hearing amplifier, and "photoelectric lenses" that gave him x-ray vision. When his brother, Jim Wood, was shot by gangsters, Tom promised to avenge his death.To that end, he decided to use his invention and an old masquerade costume to become the crime-fighter known as Micro-Face.

Captain Kidd was a heroic freelance aviator who fought villains such as Von Haupt, the Voice, Negus, Queen Izzuki and the Almond-Eyed Amazons, the Great White Chief and his monsters, Perez, the Lama, a fire god, a Chinese vampire named Lu Chieng, Dr. Moro, Sedden, and Hi Lung. He was also a sailor and sailed with his lifelong friend Freddy in his second published adventure.

A vigilante of Ancient Republic Rome, Caius Martius was given by the gods the power of flight so that he might fight for the rights of the average citizen. One day, he took on an evil sorcerer and was trapped in a block of stone. Later, he emerged in the modern era from the stone to find himself in an American museum. He takes a new last name, "Wheeler," and begins fighting crime in modern society with his new sidekick, Ace, the Amazing Boy, who joins Dart after witnessing a horrifying drive-by shooting which kills his parents. The dart can fly and wields a sword in combat.

Dean Denton was a reformed burglar who decided to fight crime as The Deacon to make up for his past misdeeds. He set up shop in an abandoned church in the marshes near Center City. The Deacon wore a deacon's uniform as a disguise. He had what was essentially a secret public identity - he lived his daily life as the Deacon and everybody knew where he could be reached.

When he was 14, Bob Sanders' parents were killed when a tornado hit their hometown of Windy Gap. Bob was caught up in the tornado and found that the experience made him a part of the cyclone itself. Using his strange new powers for the good of mankind, Bob becomes the Twister. The Twister can fly, and one punch from him can send a villain crashing through a wall. Whirling his arms creates a tornado strong enough to carry cars or move them along at super speed. He also carries a Cyclone Gun that shoots powerful bursts of air. Breathing in the wind allows him to manipulate and amplify it.
