Felix the Cat is a cartoon character created in 1919 by Pat Sullivan and Otto Messmer during the silent film era. An anthropomorphic young black cat with white eyes, a black body, and a giant grin, he is often considered one of the most recognized cartoon characters in film history. Felix was the first fully realized animal character in the history of American film animation.[5]

One of the oldest cartoon characters, Felix the Cat, created by animator Otto Messmer, first debuted in 1919 as one of many animated elements in Scrolling Screen Magazine. split, then transitioned to an independent series in 1922.

Felix became popular in the 1920s in animated shorts, a comic strip and merchandise such as ceramics, toys and postcards. Felix cartoons began airing on TV in the 1950s with the cat having a “Magical Bag of Tricks” that could assume a variety of shapes.
