If you climb down the track at Furber stairs or take the Scenic Railway or Skyway down into the Jamison Valley there is 2.8 kms of boardwalk which give you easy access to a fascinating rainforest area with mining relics. The track down the cliff gives you a better view of Katoomba Falls & plenty of heart pumping exercise ! A closer version of the Hoop Pine fruit showing the cool pattern on the outside of the fruit. Found on a forest floor near Gosford on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia. Canon 5D MkIII. Scientific name Araucaria cunninghamii. Other less commonly used names include colonial pine and Queensland pine. The scientific name honours the botanist and explorer Allan Cunningham, who collected the first specimens in the 1820s. Believe it or not, you can see railings on the top of this rock so I'm guessing there are ladders on the other side! It's not a place that I would feel safe sitting on. This is the beautiful scenery at Dove Lake near Cradle Mountain in Tasmania, Australia. That's Marion's Lookout above the iconic boatshed. I was going to call it Swan Lake but the black swan in the picture was more interested in preening than posing & is almost invisible here. On a steamy hot Australia Day, 2011 Sydneysiders were flocking to the water .. beaches, harbours, anywhere cooler. Manly, on the northern side of the harbour is a great place to be on a hot day. 500 views as of May 4, 2012. I rarely have people in my nature shots but this image appealed to me for various reasons. Dominating the background here is Crater Bluff in the Warrumbungle National Park. I did this walk by myself but met a few couples at the highlight of the walk at Grand High Tops. The guy in the photo did the walk with his girlfriend & I remember him telling me about various people who had scaled the Breadknife & Belougery Spire with obvious admiration. The thought of people scaling these almost vertical rock structures made me a bit nauseous. I liked the contrast here of the rugged Aussie staring up at the rugged Aussie rock structure. The name for this spot on the Noosa Heads walking track is Hells Gate because of the danger to surfers, but from my perspective it looks like a bit of heaven. The newest feature of Cave Creek Falls in Springbrook's Natural Bridge is this log, which wedged itself in the falls in late 2012 and has been there ever since. It adds an extra dimension to the falls, especially when there is less water in them during the winter months.

North Tamborine graveyard -- a spooky but very fun place to spend Halloween!

Sometimes you need to take your focus off what you've come to take photos of an look around. I was at Dicky Beach to take photos of the wreck, but the clouds behind me were just as interesting!
