Locomotive #1213 - Vale of Rheidol Railway, February 2020 The narrow gauge Vale of Rheidol railway runs from the West Wales coastal town of Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains, climbing 700 feet along its 12 mile route. Locomotive number 1213, shown here at Devil's Bridge station, is one of three 2-6-2 steam-driven tank locomotives used on the line. All three currently carry the historic Great Western livery that they were originally delivered in. Built in Swindon in the 1920s/30s, each engine weighs 25 tons and is more than 8 feet wide (despite the track gauge being just under 2 feet).
