The Magnolia Petroleum Company was an early twentieth century petroleum company in Texas founded on April 24, 1911 by the Sealy family of Galveston, as a consolidation of several earlier companies. Standard Oil of New York (Socony) exchanged its stock for all of the Magnolia stock (except seven shares for the Directors) in December 1925 though it continued to operate as an affiliate of Socony. Socony merged with Vacuum Oil Company in 1931, becoming Socony-Vacuum Oil Company. Magnolia Petroleum continued to operate as a subsidiary of Socony-Vacuum. In 1959, Magnolia was fully incorporated into the Mobil division of Socony-Vacuum, which later changed its name to Socony Mobil and, ultimately to Mobil Oil Corporation.

For this seamless floral pattern the mysterious, graceful and diverse magnolias were the main inspiration. In Chinese art magnolia flower is a symbol of feminine sweetness and beauty. They are elegant, tender and look so fragile in the light of the new day. But it is dawn that gives us all the new hope! The snow, which they oppose with all their strength, cannot break them, cannot hide their beauty. The snow only emphasises the strength and striving with which the flowers confront the challenges that have fallen upon them. I am sure that the same feeling of hope and feminine power will be given by a fabric strewn with snow covered magnolias in a pink glow of a new day!

Magnolia blossom

In the Chinese culture, the magnolia tree symbolises purity and nobility. The tree was also known for its healing powers because in Traditional Chinese Medicine, magnolia bark was used as a sleep aid. Hanakotoba means that the magnolia flower represents a love for nature, nobility, perseverance, dignity.

The magnolia is usually the first to flower for spring! So magnificient!

August is Magnolia Month in my suburb but thanks to photography we can enjoy this all year around!
