Long ago the Annunaki sent a group to mine Earth for it's gold, to help with terraforming the Annunaki home planet. This mining group wanted a little help, so they genetically modified the existing hominids. Homo Sapiens were created, and used in mining operations for generations. When the home planet found out what the mining group had done they were not impressed. The mining group was recalled, and the humans left to themselves.
